Two people were killed and a third injured in a two-vehicle traffic accident on Interstate 40 early Thursday morning.

According to a preliminary report, Daniel Charles Brown, 31, of Grapevine, Arkansas got on the interstate at the 247-mile marker westbound and headed east in the westbound lanes.

The 1006 Chevrolet truck he was driving hit a 2023 Kia Rio driven by Rylee Makenzie Lester, 18, of Concord, Ga. head-on. Lester and a passenger in her car, Sebastian Hall Arnold, 23, of Griffin, Ga. Were both killed and Brown was injured and taken to a hospital at Memphis.

The accident was reported at 1:53 a.m. and the deaths bring to five the number of people killed the state’s highways so far this year.
