After more than three months without a homicide in Pine Bluff, the streak was broken Wednesday night when police found the body of a 22-year-old man outside the Regency Arms Apartments.

Demarcuz Scott was pronounced dead of multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show Thursday, Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. was asked about the streak, even though he had told host Greg Horne previously that he didn’t want to bring the subject up.

During an appearance on the show about a month Horne said Woods “got mad” when the subject of the streak was brought up.

The Sheriff’s Department is not directly involved in this investigation and Woods praised Pine Bluff Police and chief Denise Richardson for their efforts to identify and arrest violent crime suspects.

At press time, no arrests had been made and no suspects identified in this first homicide of 2023 police are asking anyone with information to contact the Detective Division at 870-730-2090 or the dispatch center at 870-541-530
