At its final meeting of the year, the Monticello City Council heard an update on two sidewalk projects that go back to 2019 and 2020.

According to the Advance Monticellonian newspaper, one of the projects would extend sidewalks from U.S. Highway 278 to Old Warren Road and the second would extend sidewalks from Jordan Park to the library.

The report said the ARDOT (Arkansas Department of Transportation) has been given environmental clearance and accepted the city’s right of way certification. There is still an issue to clear up as ARDOT wants to include a three-foot buffer between the curb and the sidewalk and the city’s current sidewalks butt up to the curb.

On the Jordan Park project, there are right of way issues that have to be resolved before that project can move forward.
