A Pine Bluff man previously convicted of misdemeanor domestic battery in 2018 was arrested Tuesday after allegedly pushing his girlfriend into the broken glass during an altercation.

Clarence Long, 54, was taken into custody after police responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a house in the 3900 block of West 8th Avenue.

Detective Michael Merritt reported that when officers arrived, they were told that the victim was being taken to Jefferson Regional Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

During a court hearing Wednesday, Deputy Prosecutor Caleb Conrad said the victim told police she was a temporary resident of the house with her boyfriend, then added:

When Long was interviewed, he said the victim had been the one who was drunk and began to fight with him. He said he pushed her but didn’t know that she had fallen because he had left the residence.

Because of the prior conviction, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond for Long after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with second offense third-degree domestic battery. Long was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled and told to come back to court on June 28.
