31 year old Derrick McAfee killed, PBPD working as apparent Homicide

Update:  Pine Bluff Police have released the following statement 

January 25, 2024, just after 10:00 AM, Officers of the Pine Bluff Police Department responded to the area of E. 26th and S. Indiana to attempt to locate a missing person. 31-year-old Derrick McAfee had been reported missing the evening before. McAfee’s family located his vehicle empty near the area of 26th and Indiana, called police, and then began searching the area. McAfee’s body was located in a cart on the North side of 26th near the address of 1300 E. 26th.

McAfee was pronounced dead at the scene by deputies of the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. Detectives state that this case is an apparent homicide. His body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
This homicide is still in the early stages of the investigation at the time of this release. There is no suspect information to release at this time. The Pine Bluff Police Department is in the early stages of a homicide investigation after a body was located near 26th Avenue and Indiana Street.
Social media rumors have stated that multiple bodies were found, however, Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley has confirmed that only one body was located at the scene.
The body will be sent to the crime lab to determine time and cause of death.
