PINE BLUFF, AR—The City of Pine Buff is launching a new initiative to inform residents of ordinances and zoning within city limits. The city is calling on everyone in the community to help do their part.

Operation Green Sweep was established due to the issues and concerns with violations throughout the city. It is an ongoing initiative under the umbrella of the Pine Bluff Police Department’s “Blue Rain” Initiative in conjunction with the Urban Renewal Agency.

Efforts to educate and inform residents of the various city ordinances and zoning will begin Wednesday, April 6th by way of door-to-door, street-by-street mobilizing of multi-department including Code Enforcement, Inspection and Zoning, Pine Bluff Police and Fire Departments, Urban Renewal, Office of the Mayor and volunteers. The initiative takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Wednesday if the weather permits. The target areas for this initiative are West 34th Ave. to West 17th Ave. and Hazel Street to Olive Street. As the initiative progresses, the target areas will expand.

“The main goal is to educate and inform our residents,” said Urban Renewal Executive Director Chandra Griffin.  “Informing our residents by way of public forums, media announcements, and focusing on door-to-door and street-by-street visits is only the first step.”

Griffin stated that the next step will involve getting the appropriate departments involved by way of warnings, citations, fines, etc.

Organizers say this initiative is just the beginning of what the departments could do for the city.

“The impact will be a beautified city with well-informed, law-abiding citizens,” said Griffin.

Griffin says the public can become involved by being responsible for their properties, keeping them clean and safe, and educating themselves on city ordinances and zoning.
