A Pine Bluff man with three prior felony drug convictions was arrested Monday after he was involved in chase with sheriff’s deputies that ended when the man wrecked the vehicle.

Terrance Potter, 38, was taken into custody after he fled into a wooded area following the wreck at 2nd Avenue and Laurel Street.

During a court hearing Monday, Deputy Prosecutor Brittaney Akel said Tri-Count Drug Task Force Investigator Morgan Carter reported seeing Potter, who has a suspended driver’s license, get behind the wheel of a BMW and drive toward Blake Street. Carter notified a deputy who was in the area and a check with the Arkansas and National Crime Information Centers confirmed that Potter’s license was suspended and there were active warrants for his arrest.

Akel said the deputy had to run back to his car to continue the pursuit and later Task Force Sgt. Courtney Kelly took the lead in the pursuit.

Investigators later served a search warrant at Potter’s residence where they found suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a bag containing multi-colored pills that tested positive for MDMA and weighed a total of 50.2 grams. Other pills will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for analysis.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $50,000 bond for Potter after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him wit possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver, fleeing and possession of a controlled substance.

He was told to come back to court Aug. 25.
