A $50,000 bond was set Tuesday for a man currently on parole who was accused of firing a shot into a window air conditioning unit in the Dollarway area Sunday.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Eric Easterling, 36, with the terroristic act and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Reading from a probable cause affidavit from Detective Ryan Edwards, Deputy Prosecutor Caleb Conrad said an officer was sent to #4 Evergreen Drive where the victim said he was asleep on his couch and woke up when he heard Easterling threaten to shoot his window air conditioner.

Edwards took a recorded statement from the victim and Conrad told the court what the victim said.

Officers located Easterling in the area and conducted a search on his person. After a pat-down, officers found a black .380-caliber handgun in his right pocket.

He was questioned by Edwards and Conrad told the court what Easterling said.

Conrad said Easterling was convicted of commercial burglary and theft of property in Hempstead County and on probation in Washington County. He is also listed as a parole absconder and will be held without bond pending a hearing to determine if he should be sent back to prison to complete his sentence.

Easterling was told to come back to court Aug. 11.
