Bonds of $35,000 each were set Friday for two men accused of stealing and then selling copper wire belonging to AT&T.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bonds after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Zachary Spaulding, 52, of Pine Bluff with theft of property and Justin Spears, 39, of Wabbaseka with theft by receiving.

During the court hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Keith Hall said that during the late summer and into October, AT&T had been the victim of numerous incidents of copper wire theft.

Hall said police were not able to find Spaulding initially but did locate Spears and another person.

Spaulding is currently on parole and a petition to revoke that parole has been filed so he will be held without bond pending a hearing. Spears will also be held without bond after failing to appear in court on felony charges filed last year. The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent both men.
