A $25,000 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man accused of forcing his way into a house Saturday and beating his girlfriend.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Richard Williams, 36, with residential burglary.

Deputy Prosecutor Joe West said police were sent to the home on Catalpa Street in response to a reported burglary and battery.

Williams turned himself in Monday but declined to make a statement without an attorney being present.

He was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled and told to come back to court Oct. 30. He said he would hire an attorney.
