Dennis Heard, 46, was taken into custody after he was detained following another reported shoplifting incident, Deputy Prosecutor Lisa McGriff said during a court hearing Monday.

According to a probable cause affidavit from Detective Jason Boykin, police were sent to the Super 1 Foods at 2721 S. Camden Road on March 24 where the victims reported they had been told that a man was later identified as Heard had left the store without paying for merchandise.

McGriff then told the court what happened next.

Boykin reported that police were able to locate the registered owner of the vehicle, McGriff said.

When Heard was interviewed, he said he never took the car and never hit anyone. He also said he did not remember who was driving.

McGriff said Heard has a lengthy criminal history dating back to the 1990s and pending drug charges.

Because of the pending charges, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $25, 000 cash-only bond for Heard after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated robbery. He was ordered to come back to court on May 10.
