A $10,000 bond was set Thursday for a Jefferson County man accused of having sexual contact with a female on Tuesday.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Willard McGarity, 78, with second-degree sexual assault.

Reading from an affidavit by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Investigator Michael Musgrove, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said on Tuesday morning, deputies were sent to an address in the county.

McGarity was ordered to have no contact with the victim and told to come back to court Nov. 14. He said he would try to hire his own attorney.
