UAPB Women Hoops Fall in Historic Home Opener To Arkansas

PINE BLUFF, AR — For the first time in school history, the Lady Lions hosted the University of Arkansas Lady Razorbacks in H.O. Clemmons Arena for their season opener on Monday. The Lady Lions dropped a hard-fought 70-50 decision to Arkansas.

Maori Davenport led the Lady Lions (0-1) with 14 points and nine rebounds. Coriah Beck also tacked on nine points and Raziya Potter helped out with four points.

The UAPB defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Monday’s game, forcing 13 Arkansas turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 10 points on the other end of the floor. Shayla Bouie led the way individually for the Lady Lions with two steals.

How It Happened

UAPB kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 15-10.

The Lady Lions continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 42-17 halftime deficit.

The Lady Lions faced a 61-35 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. UAPB turned three offensive rebounds into four second chance points on the way to scoring 18 total points in the quarter.

UAPB narrowed its deficit in the fourth quarter, but could not get over the hump, losing 70-50. UAPB took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 15 points in the paint.
