GULFPORT, Miss. — In a thrilling pitching duel that lasted until the very end, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team put up a tough fight but ultimately fell short in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Florida A&M in 8 innings during the first round of the SWAC Softball tournament in Gulfport, MS.

Despite the loss, the young and talented Golden Lions ball club gave the top-seeded Rattlerettes one of the best games of the season. True freshman Kayla Adams (13-10), a rising star and Co-Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-Conference, took the ball on the hill for UAPB and delivered an impressive performance.

The right-hander went 7.1 innings, allowing only four hits and striking out seven while giving up two runs, both of them earned, and allowing three walks.

Adams demonstrated her skill by stranding over 12 consecutive batters before finally giving up a hit in the bottom of the eighth, just before FAMU scored the winning run. Despite the tough loss, the Golden Lions can hold their heads high knowing they gave their all and put up a strong fight against a top-ranked opponent.
