UAPB Women Hoops Fall In Heartbreaker To Prairie View A&M

PINE BLUFF, AR – The UAPB women’s basketball team put together a comeback late in Monday’s game, outscoring Prairie View A&M 15-6 in the final five minutes, but ultimately came up short, falling to the Lady Panthers 62-60.

The Lady Lions had three players score in double figures, led by Maya Peat, who had 14 points, six rebounds and two steals. Coriah Beck added 14 points and two steals and Raziya Potter helped out with 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists from the bench.

UAPB shared the ball well in Monday’s game, racking up 20 assists on 24 made field goals. Potter’s six assists paced the Lady Lions and Jelissa Reese also helped out with four assists of her own.

UAPB did a great job disrupting Prairie View A&M shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Kortney Rittenberry led the way individually for the Lady Lions with two rejections.

How It Happened

UAPB kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 15-11.

The Lady Lions continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 33-21 halftime deficit.

UAPB came out of halftime on fire, going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Peat, to trim its deficit to 33-27 with 8:22 to go in the third. Prairie View A&M countered and stretched its lead to 46-38 heading into the fourth. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring 14 of its 17 points in the paint.

Prairie View A&M kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 58-47 advantage before UAPB went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Potter’s three, to shrink the deficit to 58-54 with 1:41 to go in the contest. The Lady Lions kept their comeback going, but Prairie View A&M managed to hold on for the 62-60 win. UAPB took advantage of seven Prairie View A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of those takeaways.
