UAPB Women Hoops Drops Tough Loss On The Road To Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. — Khadijah Brown secured a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds, but the UAPB women’s basketball team fell to the Grambling State Lady Tigers 83-72 on the road Monday.

The Lady Lions (8-10, 4-4) had four players score in double figures, led by Brown, who had a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Takaylyn Busby tacked on 13 points and three steals and Joyce Kennerson helped out with 12 points.

UAPB utilized great ball movement in Monday’s game, piling up 15 assists on 28 made field goals. Zaay Green eight assists led the distribution list for the Lady Lions and Sade Hudson also contributed with three assists of her own.

The Lady Lions defense was a problem in Monday’s game, forcing 14 Grambling L turnovers that turned into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Busby’s three steals led the way individually for the Lady Lions.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 10-9 advantage, UAPB went on a 7-0 run with 5:25 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Kennerson, to increase its lead to 17-9. The Lady Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 25-21 advantage. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 25 points.

UAPB kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 9:32 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Brown, to increase its lead to 32-21. The Lady Tigers cut into that lead, but the Lady Lions still enjoyed a 43-33 advantage heading into halftime.

UAPB then lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Lady Tigers 60-58 entering the fourth. UAPB knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 15 total points.

UAPB could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 83-72.
