UAPB Men Hoops: Defensive Effort Leads UAPB Over Prairie View A&M

PINE BLUFF, AR – UAPB men’s basketball team held Prairie View A&M to just 11.8 percent from beyond the arc in a 2-for-17 shooting performance on the way to a 63-55 win over the Panthers for their second consecutive win at home Monday at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

The Golden Lions had three players score in double figures, led by Kylen Milton, who had 22 points and five assists. Trejon Ware added 11 points and two steals and Chris Greene helped out with 10 points, four assists, two steals and two blocks off the bench.

UAPB shared the ball well in Monday’s game, racking up 15 assists on 18 made field goals. Milton’s five assists led the Golden Lions.

UAPB did a great job disrupting Prairie View A&M shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Ac Curry led the way individually for the Golden Lions with two rejections.

How It Happened

After falling behind 28-25, UAPB went on a 7-0 run with 2:40 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Ismeal Plet, to take a 32-28 lead. The Golden Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 34-31 advantage. UAPB got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 22 of its 34 total points.

UAPB started tacking on points in the second half almost immediately, going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Zach Reinhart’s three, to grow the lead to 43-31 with 15:01 to go in the contest. The Panthers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Golden Lions still cruised the rest of the way for the 63-55 win. UAPB got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 13 of its 29 total points.
