Pine Bluff man arrested for manslaughter; Other charges following automobile accident in Monticello

A Pine Bluff man has been arrested on charges of DWI, Manslaughter, and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree following a fatal automobile accident that occurred in the Monticello Walmart parking lot at 3 p.m. Friday.

33-year-old Jarvis Dillard was taken into custody at the scene after a vehicle he was operating collided with multiple parked vehicles in the parking lot in addition to striking and killing a pedestrian.

Police responded to the scene after receiving multiple calls of an out-of-control vehicle that was crashing into multiple other vehicles. The pedestrian that was struck was unloading her cart into her vehicle at the time she was struck according to a police report.

The pedestrian was identified as 86-year-old Esther M. Hudson of Monticello.

She was taken to Drew Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased from her injuries.
