At its most recent meeting, the Pine Bluff City Council approved an ordinance that changed the rank structure of the Pine Bluff Police Department.

Police Chief Denise Richardson asked for the changes to be made, which included eliminating two deputy chief’s positions, and adding three additional captains.

Richardson talked about the changes when she was a guest on the Oldies 1013 morning show.

Richardson said the change also involved removing one sergeant’s position and one lieutenant’s position, as well as the two deputy chiefs.

Morning show host Greg Horne said the changes will now offer officers a clearer path to be able to rise through the ranks and Richardson agreed.

With the changes, the department will now have one assistant chief, two deputy chiefs, four captains, 12 lieutenants, 21 sergeants and 116 patrolmen.
