A reported disturbance at a house on West 30th Thursday resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly assaulted his wife.

Jermell Barnett, 33, was taken into custody after police responded to a 911 call, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said during a court hearing Friday.

Detective Chris Wieland reported that the victim said Barnett also choked her.

Special Judge Phillip Green set a $5,000 bond for Barnett Friday after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault on a family or household member. Barnett was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled and told to come back to court Feb. 3.
