Kingsland Elementary is one of our state’s three 2018 Blue Ribbon schools. It is home to the only Arkansas teacher to receive a Milken Educator Award this year, but the State Board of Education voted to close the doors this summer.
And Kingsland won’t be the first community to suffer this fate. The tiny town of Mount Pleasant once had a Blue Ribbon elementary school that it also lost to consolidation.
They will consolidate with Rison Schools next fall semester.
Superintendent Dupree says no Kingsland teachers will be fired or laid off.
The staff reduction will occur through retirements, resignations, and relocations.
