Several Jefferson County elected officials who received pay raises last year will be receiving additional money after an error was discovered in the amount they were paid.

At a meeting of the Quorum Court Monday night, County Judge Gerald Robinson said the error was the result of miscommunication between his office and the office of the County Clerk and affected the pay of the current and former circuit clerks, current and former assessors, and the current tax collector, treasurer and sheriff.

The sheriff’s annual income should have been listed as $95,228 but instead was listed at 94,224.48, a difference of $1,003.52. The income for the other elected officials was listed as $86,400 when it should have been listed as $89.845.04, a difference of $3,45.03.

To correct the error, the county’s legislative body approved an appropriation totaling $30,494.63 which will be applied to the checks of the affected officials.

Also during the meeting, Robinson announced that there will be a special meeting of the Quorum Court Monday, August 14, to take up all the items which were approved by the Quorum Court in July in what Robinson called an illegal meeting and which he subsequently vetoed.

After the meeting, Robinson explained why he called the special meeting.

Legislation to pay current Circuit Clerk Flora Cook Bishop a lump sum for leave time she accumulated before she became circuit clerk on Jan. 1 failed in committee.
