An Altheimer man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly pointed a handgun at two women during an altercation.

Albert Hawkins, 36, was taken into custody after police were sent to a residence in the 3400 block of Fir Street in response to a reported domestic disturbance.

During a court hearing Friday, Deputy Prosecutor Caleb Conrad said detectives interviewed the victim and told the court what she said.

The victim’s cousin was also present and told police she had walked outside and, when she came back in, saw Hawkins pointing the gun at her cousin.

Hawkins was interviewed by Detective Enrique Soto and said he had gone to the residence because the victim had not answered his calls or text messages. He said he knew she kept a gun under the bed, and he grabbed it to keep her from shooting him. He said he put the gun in his pocket when the victim’s cousin came back in and denied pointing the gun at either one of them.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $2,500 bond for Hawkins, who Conrad said had no prior convictions or pending charges, after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with two counts of aggravated assault. Hawkins was ordered to have no contact with the victim or her cousin until the case is settled.
