A $25,000 bond was set Tuesday for a Redfield man accused of shooting another man Sunday.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge David Burns with first-degree battery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Reading from an affidavit by Redfield Police Chief Steve McFatridge, Deputy Prosecutor Shana Alexander said at 6:50 p.m. Redfield Police responded to the Jefferson Post Office on Highway 365 in response to a shooting victim.

When Burns was questioned, he said when he arrived at the address, Sloane was already there and when Sloane started walking toward him, he felt threatened and shot him in the leg.

Alexander said Burns has multiple prior felony convictions for non-violent felonies.

He was ordered to have no contact with the victim and told to come back to court Feb. 6.
