A $25,000 bond was set Monday for a woman accused of attempting to smuggle drugs into a Jefferson Count prison.

Jefferson County Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Ashley Stehman, 41, of Quitman with furnishing prohibited articles.

Reading from an affidavit by State Police Investigator Randy Rauls, Deputy Prosecutor Shana Alexander said on Sunday at about 2:40 p.m. Stehman entered the Randall Williams correctional facility for the purpose of visitation.

Alexander said when Stehman was questioned, she admitted wrapping the package of methamphetamine and placing it in her vagina before leaving her residence in Quitman.

Stehman said she would hire her own attorney and was told to come back to court Aug. 24.
