The wording in the proposed Go Forward Sales tax and the Public Safety tax was a topic of discussion as the Pine Bluff City Council’s Ways & Means Committee met Thursday afternoon.

All four ordinances were addressed by the committee and voted to be passed to City Council for discussion. The 3/8 sales tax, which is the Public Safety tax had one change which was to state the start time for public safety officer’s bonus.  Wording for the 5/8 sales tax was changed to reflect that the tax is a “General Use” Sales Tax.

At a brief meeting Thursday, Council member LLoyd Holcomb Jr., moved to send both ordinance to the full council for consideration, along with two ordinances setting a November special election date for voters to consider.

Brown Jr., who chaired the committee, explained the changes to Deltaplex news.

The new ordinances replace legislation that had previously been approved by the committee and had been read once at the full council meeting in July. A second reading, which had been scheduled for Monday night was pulled from the agenda after questions arose about the wording of the ordinances.
