A two-vehicle accident north of Noble Lake on U.S. 65 south Saturday resulted in the death of one person and injuries to a second.

According to a preliminary report, the victim, an unidentified male was northbound on U.S. 65 when the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line and struck a 2020 Freightliner Tractor-Trailer head-on. The vehicle then caught fire and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner April Davis at 6:15 a.m.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Vanessa Spencer, 61, of Dermott was injured and taken to Jefferson Regional Hospital for treatment.

The accident was reported at 2:46 a.m. and the death was the 439th so Far this year on the state’s highways.
