UAPB Baseball Tops Arkansas Baptist College

PINE BLUFF, AR.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions rallied in the eighth inning to defeat Arkansas Baptist College 4-3 Wednesday evening at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.

Junior Peyton Niemann got the win on the mound, followed by junior Jaxson Lucas with the save for the Golden Lions. Junior Ben Van Maanen had an outstanding performance on the hill, pitching 3.0 innings with six strikeouts. Andre Greene had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-3, and scoring two runs, followed by Brad Mican, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with two RBIs. Sophomore Derek Blackmore also added an RBI for UAPB.

How It Happened 

The Golden Lions got on the board first in the bottom of the second before the Buffaloes answered back, scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead. UAPB quickly responded in the bottom of the third with a single by Mican, scoring Simon and Green to take a 3-2 lead. The Buffaloes tied the game 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning before the Golden Lions took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the victory.

UAPB will be back in conference play at home this weekend to take on Prairie View in a three-game series. The first pitch is set for Friday, April 14, at 3 p.m.
