Star City School District Superintendent Jordan Frizzell told members of the school board Monday that enrollment in the district is up to 1404 and is improving.

According to the Lincoln Ledger newspaper, Frizzell said the district is doing better than other schools in the area in getting enrollment up since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also at the meeting, the board approved a contract for next year with the Arch Ford Cooperative to provide Alternative Learning Education (ALE) to the school for $62,500. The money will pay for facilitators’ salaries and will provide ALE to students in the elementary school, middle school and high school. The program is currently not offered in the elementary school.

The newspaper quoted Frizzell as saying the program is beneficial for students who are behind to recover credits and gets back on track for graduation. The district also receives funding based on the number of students in ALE.

Frizzell said the Star City High School Prom this year will be a meal and some planned activities and Frizzell said that could change if COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Graduation this year will be normal and held at the new arena.
