A special meeting of the Sheridan City Council last week discussed complaints that a new kennel had not been installed at the Sheridan Animal Shelter.
According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, Police Chief Jason Teague said that a slab that had been poured recently and the current slab did not extend to the current sewage drainage system and an additional 4 feet of concrete will be needed.
The plan was to have a drainage system on both sides for cleaning the kennels. He said the police department was planning to pour the concrete itself to save money but is currently short of staff and he did not want to jeopardize anyone’s health by asking them to work in the dangerous heat.
Teague said the department has also added a person to oversee the shelter and new outside lights, fans and heaters have been installed.
The animal shelter is located behind the Sheridan Detention Center.
