Wednesday is United Way Day on Oldies 1013 and this week, Leslie Dorn, Executive Director of the United Way of Southeast Arkansas was joined by Capt. Jason Purdue of the Salvation Army.

Dorn said the holidays were a busy time for partner agencies and for people in need.

Because of the recent cold weather, Purdue was asked if his agency provided a place for people to get warm and answered this way.

He also said the cold weather affected the traditional bell ringing, which is a major source of income for the Salvation Army.

Purdue said the Angel Tree program also had obstacles and even though all 234 angles were adopted, 40 of those people who adopted them did not return with presents for the children the angels represented.

Morning show host Greg Horne asked if those 40 children did not get gifts and Purdue said that was not the case.
