Two Pine Bluff men were arrested Thursday during an investigation into a shooting incident that resulted in injuries a third man.

Caleb Nelson, 20, and Darius Williams, 20, were taken into custody after officers were sent to Jefferson Regional Hospital following a report that a man had been shot. Nelson and Williams had driven the man to the hospital in a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe and officers obtained consent to search the vehicle where they found three handguns, spent shell casings and nine-millimeter shells.

Officers were also sent to the area of 19th Avenue and Elm Street in an attempt to locate a crime scene and they found a house that had been hit by bullet fragments.

When Williams was questioned, he said he was riding in the Tahoe with Nelson, who was driving, and with the man who had been shot. He said they saw a white vehicle following them and a gunfight ensued between occupants of the white vehicle and themselves.

Nelson essentially told the same story when he was questioned.

On Friday, Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a bond of $20,000 for Nelson and Williams after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge each of them with committing a terroristic act, unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle and unauthorized use of property to facilitate a crime.

Williams said he would hire his own attorney and the Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Nelson.
