On March 4, 2024, just after 3:00 AM, Officers of the Pine Bluff Police Department responded to a shooting at 2709 S. Georgia. On arrival, the officers located 24-year-old Austen McAfee who had suffered a gunshot to the chest. McAfee was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene by deputies of the Jefferson County Coroner.

McAfee’s family stated that he saw someone breaking into his car in the driveway. He went out to confront them. The person or persons breaking into the vehicle fled while shooting back at McAfee resulting in him being struck by one of the bullets.

This homicide is still in the early stages of the investigation at this time. There is no suspect information to release at this time.
