One of the original appointed members of the Pine Bluff School District Board has submitted his resignation, according to Superintendent Jennifer Barbaree.

She made the announcement when she appeared on the Oldies 1013 Morning Show Tuesday.

Morning Show host Greg Horne described Broughton leaving as “a very big deal,” saying that Broughton had been a member of the board for the University of Arkansas system, and had been president of that board in the past couple of years.

Barbaree said it was he understanding that Broughton was going to maintain a house in Pine Bluff but move his permanent residence to Little Rock.

She then talked about the person the board appointed to replace Broughton.

Barbaree also explained that while Broughton would not have had to run for re-election for several years, that will not be the case for his successor.

People who are interested in running for a position on the board will file in July with the election in November and Barbaree was asked if there were any qualifications required for candidates.
