Voters in Pine Bluff will go to the polls in August to decide the fate of a millage campaign for the Pine Bluff School District, which wants to build a new high school, replacing the current school on Olive Street.

If the campaign is successful, the State of Arkansas is expected to kick-in up to $14 million to cover the construction costs for the new school.

On Thursday, Pine Bluff Police Chief Denise Richardson was asked about that millage vote when she appeared on the Oldies 1013 morning show.

Morning show host Greg Horne said replacing the current buildings with new ones will help recruiting and Richardson agreed.

Horne then said thoughts of school security were not considered when the current high school was built because school shootings didn’t occur then.
