A 20-year-old Pine Bluff man who was out on bond after being accused of involvement in a shooting was arrested Tuesday in connection with the first murder of the year in Pine Bluff.

David Burnett was taken into custody after police responded to another shooting incident on Oak Street, Deputy Prosecutor Joe West said during a court hearing Wednesday.

Burnett was identified as a suspect in the shooting death of Demarcuz Scott on Jan. 4 and will be held without bond on allegations of capital murder and aggravated robbery.

Reading from an affidavit by Detective Jason Boykin, Deputy Prosecutor Joe West said that shooting occurred at the Regency Arms Apartments and when police arrived, they found Scott on the ground with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of the shooting, Burnett was out on a $50,000 bond after being accused of first-degree battery stemming from a shooting in 2022 for which formal charges have been filed.

Lincoln County Judge Phillip Green, who was filling in for vacationing Jefferson Count Judge Kim Bridgforth asked West if prosecutors planning to revoke the bond in that case because of the new allegation and West replied that is something prosecutors will consider.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Burnett and he was told to come back to court April 25.
