Murder charge filed in February traffic accident

A Pine Bluff man was arrested Monday and is accused of second-degree murder stemming from a fatal traffic accident in February.

Andre Heard, 46, was booked into the adult detention center where he is being held on a $75,000 cash only bond, according to a criminal information sheet.

A probable cause affidavit from Pine Bluff Police Traffic Sgt. Travis Goforth said on Feb. 27, 2022 at 1:11 p.m., Heard, who was driving a 2015 Dodge Charger was southbound on Cherry Street at a high rate of speed when his car struck the driver’s side of a 2019 Ford Fusion driven by Cheryl Rhoades, 68, causing her death.

Goforth reported that the area of 31st Avenue and Cherry Street is a residential area with a posted speed limit of 30 miles-per-hour. Heard was traveling 106 miles per hour 2.4 seconds before his vehicle hit Rhoades’ vehicle.

The criminal information sheet also showed that heard has been convicted of or found guilty of four or more felonies and if convicted of this offense, should be punished as an habitual offender.
