According to Akers, the department received early morning calls of gunshots being fired near a local apartment complex along with a vehicle description of the suspect.

Officers located the suspect’s vehicle, later determined to be driven by Jeremiah Morgan, age 35 of Moscow, Arkansas. A traffic stop was made for traffic violations in conjunction with the vehicle matching the previously provided witness descriptions of the vehicle involved in the firearms-related incident.

Pursuant to the traffic stop, Morgan was found to be in possession of multiple firearms and ammunition. A .223 caliber pistol, as well as a .22 caliber pistol, was located inside the vehicle by Officers.

Morgan was arrested on scene and charged with Felon in possession of a firearm Driving While Intoxicated, driving on a suspended license, and improper muffler. He was transported to the Drew County Jail pending a first judicial appearance.

Chief Akers commended the citizens of the neighborhood for quickly and accurately reporting the incident and Officers for their diligence in safely resolving the matter. “When our community and law enforcement resolve to not tolerate this kind of behavior, we get a safer community in return”.

The investigation by the Monticello Police Department is continuing.
