The Monticello City Council last week approved water and sewer line relocations on Main Street.

According to the Advance Monticellonian newspaper, representatives of McClellan Engineering said they had been working on the project for several years because the Arkansas Department of Transportation was planning to do work on U.S. Highway 82/Main Street and there were some areas of concern about in a particular stretch of roadway where water and sewer lines are buried under the roadway.

The engineers are planning to relocate those lines as part of the project but other lines, especially those close to the square cannot be relocated due to the physics associated with gravity-fed sewer lines. In those cases, plans are to rehabilitate the lines through a cure-in-place process.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2024 or early 2025.
