A $100,000 bond was set Tuesday for a Pine Bluff man accused of raping a seven-year-old girl.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond for John Edward Mayo following a police investigation that began Sunday.

Detective Natalie McCool reported that a forensic interviewer talked to the girl who said Mayo made her perform oral sex on her and she described his penis and drew a picture of it. She said she tried to call her mother, but Mayo told her to be quiet.

McCool also reported that the girl said Mayo had sex with her “front and back” and made her watch movies on his phone showing sex acts.

At the court hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said a nurse performed a forensic medical examination on the girl but the results were not ready.

The girl’s mother told police she did not know about the incidents until Sunday.

Mayo was taken to the adult detention center but was not questioned because he asked for an attorney.

Bridgforth appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Mayo who was told to have no contact with the girl until the case is settled.
