A Pine Bluff man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly hit his pregnant girlfriend during an altercation.

Tevin Young, 22, was taken into custody after officers responded to a reported armed disturbance at a residence in the 2400 block of West 25th Avenue.

During a court hearing Friday, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said the alleged victim told police that she had an altercation with the father of her child (Young) that began the previous night when he took her cell phone and continued into the following morning.

Detective Vernita Burns reported that the alleged victim said Young hit her on the knee with a gun and also pointed it at her.

When Young was questioned, he said the alleged victim “wouldn’t leave him alone” and said while in the process of getting his clothes, he was putting his gun in a bag and hit her on the knee. He denied pointing the gun at her.

Carson said the alleged victim told police she is six months pregnant with Young’s child and she had a bruise on her knee but refused medical attention.

On Friday, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 bond for Young after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with felony domestic battery because the alleged victim is pregnant. He was ordered to have no contact with her and said he would hire his own attorney.
