Wednesday is United Way Day on Oldies 1013 and this week Morning Show host Greg Horne asked United Way Executive Director Jason Duren to talk about what the United Way and its partner agencies are doing to help people because of the federal government shutdown that has cut off SNAP benefits as well as other things.
While Horne said he thought that 1 in 8 people getting SNAP benefits was too many, he understood that people have come to depend on them and they’re being taken away, or about to be taken away.
Horne noted that Duren had used the term working poor, people that are getting up and going to work but are still at the poverty level and those are the people he wants to see get assistance.
