Public meetings are scheduled in Pine Bluff and Altheimer Thursday to let residents hear about plans to reduce the problem of flooding.

The Arkansas Black Mayors Association is administering a grant from the federal government and representatives of that group are holding meetings around the state to explain what surveys of the area have found and hopefully solutions.

The Pine Bluff Convention Center will be the site of one meeting and the Elm Church at Altheimer the other with both meetings scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Frank Bateman, the Executive Director of the Arkansas Black Mayors Association was a guest on the Oldies 1013 Morning Show and was asked if he thought the results of the surveys will help to provide relief from some of the flooding issues residents have dealt with.

Morning Show host Greg Horne asked Bateman that since there is only a set amount of money available, how will the decision be made as to which areas get work done and which don’t.

Bateman said that projects in both Pine Bluff and Altheimer will now move to the design phase but only the Pine Bluff project will see work done initially.

Again those meetings start at 5 p.m. in Pine Bluff at the Convention Center and at the Elm Church in Altheimer.
