A $5,000 bond was set Monday for a Sheridan man accused of hitting an off-duty sheriff’s deputy who was working at the Saracen Casino in the early morning hours Sunday.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Joshua Newman, 27, with second-degree battery.
Reading from an affidavit by Sheriff’s Sgt. Clayton Cantrell, Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter said at 1:45 a.m. Cantrell was working off-duty when he was advised of a disturbance on the parking lot of the casino.
Newman was told to come back to court Nov. 21.
