A $10,000 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly choked and threatened the mother of his child during an altercation.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Kemonte Chidester, 32, with aggravated assault on a family or household member and second offense third-degree domestic battery, a felony.

During the court hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Ty Spradlin said on Monday, police were sent to an apartment complex on South Main Street in response to a reported altercation between the victim and Chidester, who the victim said was the father of her child.

When Chidester was questioned, he admitted fighting and arguing with the victim but denied choking her. He also denied threatening her and denied having a gun at the time of the incident.

Spradlin said Detectives also received information that Chidester spoken to the victim using that jail’s Homewave phone system and tried to get her to drop the charges.

Chidester was ordered to have no contact with the victim and told to come back to court Oct. 22.
