Officer Fired After Crashing Police Car Into Store at Over 100 MPH Following Social Event

Police officials said Thursday that now former officer Xavier Higgins was traveling at speeds above 100 miles per hour when the police car he was driving struck the front of Sissy’s Log Cabin in the early morning hours Thursday, causing damages exceeding $500,000.

During a press conference Thursday afternoon, police Public Information Specialist John Worthen said Higgins, 25, had left a social event at the Police Lodge on Target Valley Road a short time before the car hit the front of the building.

Higgins was administered a BA (breath alcohol) test and Assistant Police Chief Kelvin Hadley talked about the results.

Hadley also confirmed information Deltaplex News received about the speed of the vehicle Higgins was driving, and that opened containers of alcohol were found in the back seat of the unit.

He was issued citations for DWI, careless and prohibited driving and failure to stop at a stop sign and given a court date of Dec. 4. He was also fired.

Higgins joined the department on June 24, 2024 and was previously disciplined for an incident during a pursuit a few days before he completed his probationary year. Hadley said he had no other disciplinary history.
