On Wednesday, a jury in Illinois convicted a former Springfield Sheriff’s Deputy of murder in the shooting death of a 36-year-old woman whose father is from the Pine Bluff area.
Sonya Massey, 36, was shot to death by Sean Grayson after she had called deputies to her house July 6, 2024 in response to a reported prowler.
Massey’s father, James Wilburn talked to Floyd Donald about what the jury did.
Wilburn said the testimony of another deputy, and body camera of the incident played a big part in the conviction.
Donald asked Wilburn how he was holding up and keeping it calm after a jury verdict that was less than what the family wanted.
Wilburn also had these closing comments.
Grayson will be sentenced later and could receive up to 20 years in prison.
