Wyatt explained that there are two types of contempt, the first, criminal contempt, meaning that a person does something in the presence of a judge, or doesn’t do something a judge told them to.

The second type is civil contempt, which Wyatt said is the type that fits this scam.

Wyatt explained that when a person is cited for civil contempt, they will be personally served with the paperwork by a sheriff’s deputy and given a date to appear in court. They will also not be asked to pay a fine with gift cards.

He went on to say that the people involved in this scam know just enough to make themselves believable.
