The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has released new information about the in-custody death that occurred on February 19, 2026, at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center.
Cawaske Jenkins, 31, was booked into the facility on February 16, 2026. Three days later, detention staff were alerted that Jenkins was experiencing medical issues. Staff responded immediately, began first aid, and called for emergency medical services. Deputies used an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and performed CPR until first responders arrived. Despite these efforts, Jenkins was pronounced dead at the detention center.
At the time, there were no signs of foul play. The cause of death was unclear, so Jenkins’ body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for autopsy and further investigation.
On April 30, 2026, the Sheriff’s Office received the autopsy results. The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory found that Jenkins died from methamphetamine toxicity, commonly known as a methamphetamine overdose. The manner of death was ruled accidental.
Jenkins’ next of kin has been notified of these findings. The investigation remains open, and authorities say they will release more details as they become available.
