Lincoln County has a new Sheriff in former Star City Police Chief Steve Young. Young, who is a law enforcement veteran, was sworn in earlier this week.

He spoke with Deltaplex News on Tuesday saying that some of his first actions as Sheriff has been to fill vacant Deputy positions.

Young said that his main goal right now is to make sure basic services are running the way they should be.

In regards to crime, Young said Lincoln County faces the same issue as many surrounding counties – a drug problem.

Lincoln County opened a new jail within the past year, and Young said it was needed due to the former jail no longer being in compliance.

The new jail allows the county to hold female inmates where the former jail did not have space for females. However, Young said that only female inmates with felony charges are being held at this time.

When it comes to overcrowding Young said there are different things that can be done to help when new detainees are brought into the jail.
